Police Department Research: Exploring Public Safety
Background: As the City of Canyon Lake continues to evolve, ensuring the safety and protection of our residents remains a priority. That is why the City of Canyon Lake is currently evaluating its law enforcement services and is considering the establishment of its own municipal police department. Presently, police services are provided under contract by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RSO), but with rising costs and evolving public safety needs, City leaders are exploring alternatives. A recent assessment conducted by GPS Consulting LLC has outlined multiple options, including retaining the RSO contract, securing a new external law enforcement provider, or creating a dedicated Canyon Lake Police Department.
Join the Conversation, Special Ad Hoc Committee Meeting: The Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee will be hosting an informal Q&A session next Tuesday, April 8th at 5pm in the City Council Chambers. The Committee invites community residents to join the discussion and ask any questions they may have about the potential creation of a municipal police department. Residents are encouraged to attend the City Council Meeting on Wednesday, April 9th at 6:30pm, which is when the item of a municipal police department will be considered.
