RESULTS - Scoring of Applicants' Community Benefits Proposals

 

In November 2016 California voters passed Proposition 64, which legalized the use of recreational cannabis in the state.  The law provided the state of California a framework for issuing commercial cannabis licenses by January 1, 2018.  It also clarified that cities and counties could prohibit cannabis businesses; or establish regulations that are more restrictive than state law.
 
In September 2021, the Canyon Lake City Council adopted Ordinance No. 215, allowing for commercial Cannabis uses in the City of Canyon Lake. At the following City Council Meeting, the City approved three follow up resolutions:
A few important facts related to the City’s Cannabis Program, as set forth by the current Canyon Lake Municipal Code:
  • The commercial cultivation, manufacture, processing, storing, laboratory testing, labeling, distribution or transportation of cannabis or cannabis product is expressly prohibited in the City of Canyon Lake.  
  • The number of storefront cannabis businesses within the city is limited to a total of one (1).
  • Storefront cannabis businesses are subject to a points-based review process to determine which business will be granted a license. Only businesses that score 90% or higher will be considered.
  • Cannabis businesses shall not be within fifty (50) feet of a school, church or library.
