Canyon Lake is participating in Riverside County’s 2028 Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan update.

A Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, or LHMP, identifies potential hazards and sets out long-term actions to reduce their impact on people, homes, infrastructure and the environment.

This regional effort brings communities together while identifying local risks and priorities specific to Canyon Lake.

What does “hazard mitigation” mean? Taking steps before a disaster to reduce future harm, such as strengthening infrastructure, managing vegetation or improving flood protection.

What hazards are being considered?

The countywide update considers the hazards below. Local assessments will help determine how each could affect Canyon Lake; this list is not a ranking of local risk.

Wildland fire

Severe storms include hail, wind, tornadoes and other storms. Climate change will be considered across the natural hazards.

    Planning kickoff

    Regional partners begin the update and identify hazards of concern.

    AUGUST–DECEMBER 2026

    Community input

    Public input helps gather local experiences, concerns and priorities.

  3. 03

    2026–2027

    Assess & develop

    Evaluate risks, develop actions and provide opportunities to review the draft.

  4. 04

    2028 TARGET

    Review & adoption

    Complete agency review and seek approval and local adoption.
